Oriam Tennis Centre, Heriot-Watt University
The future of tennis in Scotland is looking bright with the launch of the £4.5 million Oriam Indoor Tennis Centre in Edinburgh, located at Heriot-Watt University. This state-of-the-art facility, built using the latest materials, marks a significant investment in Scottish tennis.
BMES was thrilled to be chosen by the Main Contractor, Spatial Structures – specialists in steel-framed, fabric-covered structures – to design and install the electrical systems for this large-scale project. Over the course of the 50-week project, BMES installed new switchgear, lighting and small power systems throughout the 4,000-square-meter facility. The team also fitted essential systems including fire alarms, data and fibre optic networks, intruder alarms and CCTV.
Allan Logan, Contracts Director at BMES, reflected on the project, saying, “Working closely with Spatial Structures, we ensured our work was completed on time and within budget. A specialist new build of this scale presents unique challenges, and it’s a testament to our experienced team that the project went smoothly and effectively.”
The Oriam Indoor Tennis Centre, which took approximately 18 months to complete, opened in late 2023. Featuring six state-of-the-art indoor courts, the facility is now home to the Oriam Tennis Programme and the Heriot-Watt University Tennis Club, providing a significant boost to tennis in Scotland.
