Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Ward 68

Aug 5, 2025

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow is one of Europe’s most advanced healthcare facilities. As part of wider estate upgrades, BMES were appointed to deliver the full electrical installation for the newly refurbished Ward 68.

Working within a live hospital environment, BMES ensured full compliance with healthcare standards while coordinating closely with the estates team and incumbent contractors. The installation included new switchgear, upgraded containment, small power distribution, advanced lighting and emergency lighting monitoring, fire alarms, data cabling, nurse call, and access control systems.

Two new distribution boards were connected to the hospital’s main switchboards, with all systems seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure. Works were phased to minimise disruption to staff and patients and carried out in strict accordance with NHS safety and infection control protocols.

The project was completed on time and within budget. On handover, BMES provided a full set of as-fitted drawings, manuals, and compliance documentation — delivering a reliable, future-ready installation for ongoing clinical use.
