Thrombectomy Suite, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

May 20, 2024

A new Thrombectomy Suite at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus in Glasgow is poised to significantly enhance patient outcomes.

BMES was recently responsible for the electrical installation at this state-of-the-art suite, which replaces two redundant operating theatres within the Institute of Neurological Sciences.

Appointed by the Main Contractor, Redpath Construction, BMES carried out a comprehensive electrical installation. The project scope included the installation of lighting, lighting controls, small power systems, nurse call systems, UPS/IPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply/Isolated Power Supply), lightning protection, fire alarms and access control systems. BMES also installed crucial switchgear, including a 1600Amp TP&N main switchboard.

The new Thrombectomy Suite, which opened in 2024, is designed to enhance the treatment of blood clot patients, enabling clinicians to perform interventional procedures more efficiently. Equipped with the latest technology and staffed by highly skilled clinicians, this new facility is set to make a significant impact on stroke outcomes for patients under NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.
